Your workshop hosts
Leading our workshop team across the weekend will be Caris Rianne and Pearl Andrews-Horrigan.
Caris founded Rianne Pictures in 2013 and is the festival director behind the BFI backed and BIFA accrediated Women X Film Festival. She has written and directed over 10 short films, along with her award winning feature Demi. She’s a development producer and has mentored over 50 filmmakers since 2021 through RP: Evolve, Film Hub North and Creative UK, developing all of their scripts plus many others.
She’s an experienced film programmer and judge for Keswick Film Festival and does programming and operations for Sunderland Shorts Film Festival, when she’s not directing the BIFA accredited Women X Film Festival for which she was nominated for the Makers and Shakers award for ‘Shaker of the year’ and Contribution to the Arts at Darlington Stronger Community Awards. Her original podcast Not Having It All was featured on BBC Sounds and named Film Podcast of the month by Film Stories. She is currently producing 4 shorts in 2025/2026.
Pearl is currently a Storyliner on the BAFTA-award winning medical drama Casualty. Before this, she assisted the Commissioning Team at UKTV. At Rianne Pictures she is our Senior Development Executive, Pearl created and managed the company’s first ever script reading window, which provided 80 writers with free feedback on their short film scripts.
She runs Script Club Cardiff, and also oversees the annual Women X Film Festival Script Competition. Pearl’s longer works for theatre (plays, verse plays and musicals) have been supported by The Customs House, South Shields, TYPify Youth Arts Festival and The Brewhouse, Taunton, while her short plays have been performed at venues including The Arcola, The Pleasance and Hope Mills.
RP: Evolve - Manchester, June 2025
During the summer we hopped over to Manchester, for a more city vibe approach to Evolve. Hosting even more writers, directors and producers to work on their latest scripts - which included features and TV pilots this time!
We adapted our three workshops from before, adding some more activities and real life examples that could help break through barriers, as well as short bursts of 121 consultancy on sticking points and undefined characters.
Plus with dedicated time for a Q&A it meant the filmmakers were able to dive deeper on certain subjects.
What we learnt…
The biggest common theme in this workshop was THEME! Staying true to the vision of the story, but ensuring the characters and plot didn’t get lost in an unclear theme and structure.
There was also lots of discussion on festivals, some experiences shared and tips on what some of the best ones (for women) were in the UK!
Plus the bar accidentally gave us some extra G&Ts so the day ended well…
RP: Evolve - Lake District, Feb 2025
We kickstarted the year over in the Lake District, for a beautiful day of writers, directors and producers coming together to workshop their latest scripts.
There were different challenges, such as having too many characters, not knowing how to perfect their third acts or simply just being stuck with a high page count and not knowing how to get their story structure to a good place.
We broke the day up with our three workshops, two focused heads down writing sprints, some private script consultations where we helped steer the stories and even piece together pitch ideas for reaching out to funders and producers, and even managed a team walk around the beautiful lakes.
What we learnt…
That everyone writes differently, and offering different accomidations such as quiet zones, or solo tables and even people sitting on the floor helped them achieve their goals.
That one of our workshops needed more time due to how much we deep dived collectively into the world of festivals and marketing.
That a plate of yummy croissants and pastries is the best thing to walk into…
